Zem Origin Story

When Zyan was seven, his family moved to China. In the apartment complexes where he lived, there were huge piles of leftover construction materials—old wood, concrete chunks, even broken tools. He would find an old saw blade, grabbing pieces of wood, and spending hours building forts, swords, and shields. Ever since then, he has loved repairing and building things. As a teenager, he thought it would be funny to read one of his parents’ parenting books—kind of a psychological tactic to get inside their heads. But instead of just decoding them, he got hooked. He kept reading more from his dad’s collection—books on leadership, life, parenting, habits, and growth. He became fascinated with how people develop and thrive.

He went on to get a degree in Child and Adolescent Development, Create Curriculum, Substitute Teach and Flip Houses. He has always had a passion for creation and growth ever since.

Zem was born as a company focused on the whole home—structure and people. We believe in building strong foundations, whether it’s the walls of a house or the hearts of the people who live in it.

Parenting can be tough — but the fact that you’re here shows you’re a great and loving person.
The truth is, love alone doesn’t automatically equip us with the skills we need to parent well. Like anything meaningful, great parenting is something we learn and grow into. That’s where Zem comes in. We’re here to help guide and support you as you build those all-important parenting skills.

Our founder, Zyan, began working in a kindergarten classroom at age 13 and has spent years working with children of all ages in educational settings. He holds a degree in Psychology with a focus on child and adolescent development — and most importantly, he’s a proud dad of five amazing kids (though he credits most of their awesomeness to his wife’s incredible work with them!).

This is our passion — we love fixing things and creating great spaces!

Zyan grew up building and creating. His family often teamed up on home projects — whether it was putting on a new roof, tearing out a wall, replacing windows, or fixing plumbing, there was always something to work on together. In 2020, with COVID restrictions shifting life for everyone, ZEM LLC was formed. Zyan began flipping houses and quickly discovered how much he loved working with his hands and watching incredible transformations unfold. Flipping homes was exciting, educational, and deeply rewarding — and now, he’s taking that experience into the next chapter: working directly with homeowners to bring quality repairs and creative upgrades to life.
